Applications

Helping you acquire previously unavailable data, in real-time, with unprecedented accuracy via our versatile LiDAR Technology

Topo-Bathy Surveying
  • Our 2-in-1 LiDAR is a single instrument package for mapping both topographic and underwater features, capturing the transition form land to shallow water seamlessly.

Our Solution: The combination of these two types of data helps you acquire previously unavailable high definition topo-bathy data that will change the way you do business.

Coastal Mapping
  • Mapping of near-shore environments is difficult because sonar doesn’t work well in shallow water, and tidal changes near shoals & reefs make for dangerous operations.

  • Traditional bathymetric LiDAR cannot detect much of the intertidal zone due to depth resolution constraints, making change detection in  navigation channels and sandbars after hurricanes or large storms difficult.

Our Solution: â€‹ The centimeter-level accuracy of our LiDAR provides high depth resolution mapping of difficult or impossible to reach areas,  and seamlessly captures the transition from land, to water, to objects in the water - making change detection easier than traditional methods.

Underwater Infrastructure
  • Traditional LiDAR cannot “see” underwater - or under bridges - and diver or ROV inspection is dangerous and expensive.

  • Scouring of bridge supports represents a difficult-to-measure, and often "unseen" maintenance issue:  The U.S. has 614,387 bridges... 9.1% were "structurally deficient" in 2016

  • Dams, levees and pipelines represent similar infrastructure inspection needs with equally significant failure ramifications

Our Solution:  Above water inspection (either aircraft or watercraft) of underwater infrastructure is safer and saves time and money.

Natural Resource Monitoring

Management of sensitive environments requires equally sensitive methods, which often include a person-in-the-loop, or even in the water.

  • Watershed management

  • Fish breeding grounds

  • Fish/whale populations

  • River management

  • Glacial meltponds

  • Reef studies

Our Solution:  Measure sensitive resources through above-water survey methods using our 2-in-1 Topo-Bathy LiDAR for informed decision-making regarding environmental protection.

Disaster Recovery
  • Disaster assessment requires immediate situational awareness for first responders, and shallow water hazards represent significant risk for search and rescue personnel

  • Post-storm assessment of channel morphology and other hurricane change detection (storm surge extent & real-time water levels) are vital for public safety

  • Beach recovery requires knowledge of both pre- and post- storm beach conditions

Our Solution:  During recovery efforts, measurements of waterways is critical for deploying watercraft and planning for remediation efforts.

Military Logistics
  • ASTRALiTe LiDAR military applications can make search and rescue operations much more efficient and effective by detecting objects in and under the water surface.

  • Underwater hazard detection increases the safety of deployment into marine environments through remote-sensing of features that put people at risk, such as rocks or reefs.

Our Solution:  Make search and rescue missions more effective using LiDAR to locate objects and mitigate risk of deployment into littoral environments by detecting potentially fatal hazards.
